Who was Lalo Rodriguez?

The singer, whose real name is Ubaldo Rodrguez Santos, has a long history of drug and alcohol abuse and was previously accused of cocaine possession.

The 1988 popular song Ven, devórame Otra Vez or Come, Devour Me Again is the most well-known work by Rodriguez, who was formerly a member of Eddie Palmieri’s band.

With the aid of producer Harvey Averne, Rodriguez joined Eddie Palmieri’s band in 1973 when he was 15 years old.

He sang lead vocals on Palmieri’s Grammy Award-winning CD Sun of Latin Music.

He collaborated with Palmieri again on Unfinished Masterpiece a year later, earning him the new first name “Lalo.” Additionally, Rodriguez collaborated with Tommy Olivencia and Machito’s crew.

Rodriguez went solo in 1980. He was likened to other well-known salseros like Frankie Ruiz, Eddie Santiago, and José Alberto El Canario.

He was well-known for having an engaging stage presence and frequently engaged with the crowd in the manner of the legendary Cheo Feliciano.

For the popular song “Ven, Devórame Otra Vez,” Rodriguez won “Tropical Song of the Year” at the Lo Nuestro Awards in 1989.

Over the course of the early and middle 1990s, Rodriguez continued to record and create new albums.

He was brought back to the Copacabana of New York in 1994 by Chino Rodrguez, who briefly served as Rodriguez’s manager and had Harvey Averne contact Capitol EMI Latin to re-record Rodrguez for the RIAA Platinum-selling EP Nac Para Cantar.

Estoy Aqui, Rodriguez’s final album to date, was released in 1996.

Con Todo Mi Corazon, which Rodriguez released in the late 2000s after a protracted hiatus from recording, was still unavailable to the general public as of 2013.

Rodriguez declared on January 30, 2020, that this album’s official release would take place later that year; however, as of 2021, no specific date had been set.
